В возрасте 78 лет умер один из основателей, вокалист и гитарист американской группы The Monkees Майкл Несмит. Об этом пишет Rolling Stone со ссылкой на семью артиста.
Артист скончался в своем доме в Калифорнии в пятницу, 10 декабря. Отмечается, что в 2018 году сообщалось о проблемах со здоровьем Несмита. Позже сам музыкант признался, что четыре раза переносил шунтирование сердца.
Роберт Майкл Несмит родился 30 декабря 1942 года в городе Хьюстон, штат Техас. В детстве он пел в хоре, участвовал в школьном драматическом кружке. В 1962 году поступил в колледж, где встретил Джона Лондона, своего будущего партнера по музыкальной группе.
The Monkees были основаны в 1965 году. Неоднократно отмечалось, что группа была первым бойз-бэндом, созданным музыкальными продюсерами, чтобы затмить славу британских The Beatles в США. Среди наиболее известных песен коллектива такие песни, как I'm a Believer и Daydream Believer. В 1971 году The Monkees распались после ухода Несмита.
