Associated Press.

Unfortunately I have to write in English, but hope that it gets translated. We were at the show, and it was very disappointing. The bottom line is that they are trying to change it, and trying too hard. They are trying to make a point with minorities, so if you are white your chances are bad even if you are very talented and pretty. 4 out of top 5 were minorities (3 black ladies and 1 Chinese). While Miss NY seemed to have a poise, she also played the "black" card saying how she went to the school with majority of white girls, and felt uncomfortable, etc. Come on! She should be thankful that she did go to that school, as this is how she learned some manners and learned how to properly speak. Nothing was stopping her or her parents from going to a school with majority blacks, they chose to stay. Talent wise she was ok, while not the best opera singer, she was still adequate for Miss America. As far as beauty, let's just say she was better than some but by far not the best looking. Miss Louisiana and Miss Massachusetts are the other two black girls in the top 5, were rough around the edges. Both sang for a talent portion, but were off key and sounded not so good. Could not walk properly, really did not belong to the Miss America competition at all, and more so into top 5. But again, minority card played a big role. Miss Connecticut was not too bad, was also one of the minority groups (half chinese), performed a good Irish dance and appeared to be intelligent. Miss Florida was the most talented of all in my opinion, intelligent and beautiful. The only problem is that she was white, and the judges were instructed to look for minorities. In my opinion NY and FL should have been in the top 2, FL the winner and NY 1st runner up. Then Miss Connecticut, and then someone else besides Louisiana and Massachusetts. Sorry, but these two just did not belong there. I understand that Miss America is trying to be relevant, trying to keep the show go on, but the message we got is that if you are not a minority, do not even bother to participate as there will be someone less talented, less intelligent, less everything but minority who will win. Interesting, that similar developments are currently happening in the top American universities. Princeton and other ivy league schools are admitting minority applicants above other "regular" applicants even if their GPA and test scores are higher than of the minority applicants, even if they did volunteering and community service, etc. did everything to get into these schools. When the admissions people have applications side by side from a minority applicant and regular applicant, they will choose the minority applicant. And this is the reality, discussed on TV and internet sites. And, the minority students will get in on a full ride, while the other have to pay high tuition costs and get student loans. Notice that coming from a high school in the hood, is much easier to have a better GPA and better test scores, as the standards are not that high. So what is really happening in America? These changes and attempts to erase traditions (such as swimming suite portion of competition, selecting a beautiful / well spoken / smart and talented winner, etc.) are disturbing. It feels that we have to think all the time what we are saying, be politically correct, can not express our opinion, be almost ashamed that we are not African American and grew up in a decent neighborhood, attended decent school, etc. Come on America, it is ok to be white and we should not be discriminated against!
